Spring
Warming days, blossoming bulbs, singing birds, buzzing bees, budding trees…these are testimonies spring has officially arrived. It has been a glorious introduction to the season. After an unusually cold winter (at least for this part of Texas), everyone appears eager for warmer days. This holds true for our family.
I have never had qualms with the cold before. In fact, I am one of those people who secretly love pulling out their warm sweaters, running a few miles and freezing the first couple of blocks, and drinking mug after mug of hot tea. For me, the blistering cold (or in this part of Texas, the tepid cool) offers blessed variety. The impending warmer days seem that much sweeter.
This year, however, has been different. My morning runs have been abandoned because I cannot, with good conscience, tote my little boy in near freezing temperatures. Mug after mug of hot tea have been replaced with sips of coffee between fixing breakfast for a hungry little man, convincing him that oatmeal is not actually hair gel, and then cleaning up the morning’s breakfast adventures.
This being said, our doors have flown open and we are soaking in God’s glorious creations. Aside from sleeping and eating, much of the day is spent outdoors. Christian is fascinated with everything outside our four walls, from the leaves as they dance in the wind, to the song bird’s tunes, to the way his shadow “waves” back at him. Being a boy, it goes without saying that he is also enthralled with dirt, in any of its various forms.
I found a quote that seems to epitomize our days…
In the spring, at the end of the day, you should smell like dirt. ~Margaret Atwood
Thank you, Lord, for allowing us to enjoy your many delights!!
