Here's Your Sign...

Christian has had somewhat of a "word explosion" at our house during the past few weeks. After months of focusing primarily on the physical component of his development (standing up, cruising, and walking), he has now moved on to speech. Christian has a book entitled Mr. Brown Can Moo! Can You? Dr. Seuss's Book of Wonderful Noises. The first line is "Oh the wonderful sounds Mr. Brown can do!" Christian has his own rendition of the book. He goes throughout the day exploring consonants and vowels and their various combinations. My favorite combination is mama :) He absolutely adores the motor boat sound he makes with his lips. In fact, he is affectionately called "Motor Boat" by one of his teachers at school. And if he sees skin, he dives into it so he can blow raspberries...the messier the better. He has also begun signing. I have used basic sign language with him since he was approximately six months old. Initially, he would just laugh when I would sign various things. This, of course, made his father chuckle. However, the persistence has paid off! While at a dinner party the other night, a dear friend and I were feeding Christian some cheese. After showing him once again the sign for "more," the light clicked. "More" is now one of the favorite words at our house and is used in a variety of instances, including: more food, more Peek-a-Boo, more tickles, and more story time. I love it!! Not long after this, he began signing "eat" and "milk." As he has been shaking his head "no" (adamantly at times), it looks like we have the basic words our near toddler needs. Blessings~
